Marketing Ideas

While your brochure design grabs the attention of the readers, your brochure copy on the other hand is what draws them in. It should not only talk about how good your products are; it should also be effective enough to persuade customers to do business with you. Here are a few pointers to remember when writing content for your brochures:

5 Brochure Copy Tips

1. Write as you talk.

Your promotional materials should be able to create an emotional connection between you and the reader. Imagine yourself talking to your best customer. From there, you can find the right words to use in your copy. This way, you’ll be able to sound professional yet friendly. Avoid using technical words that confuse your readers, but use industry-specific terms your audience would understand depending on your niche.

2. Focus on a single message.

If you are mailing brochures to increase repeat business, make sure to stick with a single objective when writing your brochure copy. Build your content around your main objective so your message won’t be all over the place. Try not to limit yourself to using one postcard for your campaign.  When you vary your message, clients might come back just to see if they can catch a deal.  Having a monthly or bi monthly mailing campaign gives your customers an idea of the frequency in which you hold your sales.

3. Be direct.

Present your information concisely so your customers won’t get lost while reading your copy. Instead of saying “Our company website has additional information about our products”, elicit a response from your customers by telling them to visit your website for more information about your products. Explain your points in clear and simple paragraphs to make sure that your message is understood by the reader.

4. Give them a reason to act right away.

Convince your customers by ending your copy with a strong and clear call to action. Create a sense of urgency to induce action from them. It could be a money back guarantee within 7 days or a buy now, pay later offer. A call to action statement never fails especially if it is done in the most persuasive manner.

5. Put yourself in your customer’s shoes.

Look at your business from a third person’s point of view. Know what problems your customers may have that your products can solve. This way, you’ll be able to position your products effectively. Determine the reasons why they are afraid to try your products. Is it because your brand is new or they find your products a little pricey? Whatever it is, make sure to remove their fear by emphasizing the benefits that they can get after making a purchase.

With an effective brochure copy, your customers will definitely find it hard to resist your products. I love the idea of thinking of how you would talk to your customer, and I suggest taking this idea even further by recording your conversation, of course get their permission if their voice is being recorded, but simply record your side of the phone conversation. This will help you observe your language and key points that can help establish your first rough draft for your brochure. Writing content is not a matter of thinking of ideas of what to say, its a matter of capturing these ideas and converting them into actual copy.
